Arjan Bajwa is an Indian actor, model, and show host. He began his career in the Telugu film industry and then ventured into Bollywood movies as well. Arjan is well-known for being one of the few North Indian actors who made a mark in South Indian cinema.
Early LifeArjan was born on 3 September 1979 in New Delhi. His father Swinderjeet Singh Bajwa was a former BJP politician who served as the Deputy Mayor of New Delhi and his mother is a homemaker. Arjan graduated in New Delhi with a degree in architecture. He also stakes claim to a Taekwondo black belt.
Movie CareerBefore he became an actor, Arjan modeled for various fashion designers as well as for brands like Lux, Fiat, and Godrej. He worked as a model with several top Bollywood actresses like
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan,
Preity Zinta, and
Katrina Kaif. Arjan began his film career in the Telugu film industry under the alias Deepak. The actor`s debut film was Sampangi (2001), a romantic drama. He then played the male lead in
Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao`s Nee Thodu Kavali (2002).
Arjan Bajwa made his Bollywood debut in
Sandesh Kohli`s romantic drama
Woh Tera Naam Tha (2004). After featuring in the blockbuster Telugu hit
Bhadra (2005), the actor made his second Bollywood appearance with
Mani Ratnam`s
Guru (2007). Arjan essayed the role of Arzaan Contractor, an antagonist opposite
Abhishek Bachchan, and
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film went on to be an enormous critical and commercial success. The actor`s next hit movie was
Fashion (2008), a women-centric film about the transition of a small-town girl, played by
Priyanka Chopra, into an international supermodel. The film was highly acclaimed and Arjan won the Stardust Award for Breakthrough Performance. That same year, the actor featured in the Telugu action comedy
King (2008), which was declared as a super hit at the box office.
In 2009, he starred in the Tamil-Telugu fantasy film
Arundati, alongside
Anushka Shetty and
Sonu Sood. Arundati went on to be a huge critical and commercial hit and set the bar high for fantasy films in South India. After acting in a string of flop films like
Mithrudu (2009),
Crook (2010),
Tell Me O Kkhude (2011), and
Lanka (2011), Arjan was roped in on the hit Bollywood comedy
Son of Sardaar (2012). Also referred to as SOS, the movie starred
Ajay Devgn,
Sanjay Dutt,
Sonakshi Sinha and
Juhi Chawla. In 2013, Arjan made his Punjabi film debut with
Himmat Singh, an action movie in which Arjan himself choreographed a lot of action sequences. He returned to Bollywood with the
Vidya Balan-starrer
Bobby Jasoos (2014). The actor`s sole 2016 release
Rustom is a thriller film about a controversial naval officer, played by
Akshay Kumar. His 2019 release includes Kabir Singh.
