Jeremy Renner is an American actor and singer who gained recognition for his performance as James "Jem" Coughlin in the movie The Town (2010) and as Sergeant First Class William James in the movie The Hurt Locker (2009). Renner has also portrayed the comic character Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films such as Thor (2011), The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and Captain America: Civil War (2016). Apart from acting and singing, Renner also is also a proficient guitarist, keyboardist, and drummer.

Early Life
Renner was born to Lee Renner, who managed a bowling alley, and Valerie Cearley. His parents had married when they were teenagers and separated when he was just 10 years old. He is the eldest amongst his six siblings and completed his schooling from the Fred C. Beyer High School, Modesto, in 1989. He later pursued Computer Science and Criminology. However, he later took `drama` as an elective and decided to pursue acting.

Personal Life
Jeremy Renner was married to the Canadian model Sonni Pacheco. The couple got married on 13th January 2014 and have a daughter named Ava Berlin. However, in the same year, the couple got separated on December 30, 2014.

TV Career
Renner made his acting debut on television with the TV show Deadly Games in 1995 and in the next few years appeared in several TV series such as A Friend`s Betrayal (1996), Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane (1999), Angel (2000), and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2001).

Movie Career
Renner made his feature film debut in the same year that he made his acting debut on television - 1995; with the movie National Lampoon`s Senior Trip. The following year he appeared in the movie Paper Dragons, however, he was next seen in a feature film only five years later in the movie Fish in a Barrel (2001).

In 2002 Renner essayed the role of the real-life serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in the movie Dahmer directed by David Jacobson. His performance was appreciated by the critics and he was also nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Male. The actor later revealed that it was difficult for him to cope with Dahmer`s character and his mannerisms. In the subsequent years, Renner starred in movies such as The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things (2004), North Country (2005), and Neo Ned (2005). He won the Best Actor Award at the Palm Beach International Film Festival for his performance in the movie Neo Ned.

In 2007 the actor played the supporting character Wood Hite in the critically acclaimed movie The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford which also stars Brad Pitt in the role of Jesse James. In the same year, he was cast in the movie 28 Weeks Later, a science-fiction horror movie which is a sequel to the successful movie 28 Days Later. However, Renner`s break-through performance came with the 2008 war film The Hurt Locker directed by Katherine Bigelow. The movie, which is centered on the Iraq War Explosive Ordinance Disposal team went on to won six Academy Awards. Renner, portraying the role of Sergeant William James was highly appreciated for his performance and also received his first Academy Award nomination and Screen Actors Guild nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

A couple of years later, Renner once again impressed the audience with his performance in the crime dramaThe Town directed by Ben Affleck. Affleck`s direction and Renner`s act received critical acclaim and Renner was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. For Renner`s commendable performance The Hollywood Reporter also named him as one the young male actors that are taking over Hollywood as the new `A-list`. After the success of The Hurt Locker, Renner was offered to play a cameo the popular comic character Hawkeye in the movie Thor (2011). The actor, whoever, later went on to appear in a substantial role, reprising the character of Hawkeye in The Avengers (2012), The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and Captain America: Civil War (2016). For his role as Hawkeye, Renner trained in Arnis, a Filipino martial art, and the Muay Thai martial arts.

In 2012 he also appeared in the fourth installment of the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Legacy, essaying a new lead character Aaron Cross. Renner later expressed his interest in doing another Bourne film withMatt Damon stating: "would be kick-ass. I love Matt". He was next seen in the movie American Hustle (2013) which features an ensemble cast that includes Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradly Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence in lead roles. In 2014, Renner acted and co-produced the movie Kill the Messenger; he portrayed the role the reporter Gary Webb. The movie is based on Nick Shou`s book of the same name that highlights the involvement of CIA in contra-cocaine trafficking. The actor was next seen in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015). Apart from appearing in Captain America: Civil War, in 2016, Renner starred in the sci-fi drama film Arrival directed by Denis Villeneuve. His 2019 movie credits includes Avengers: Endgame.

Music Career
Apart from being an actor, Renner is also a singer-songwriter, keyboardist, guitarist, and drummer. During his early days of acting career, he performed with the band Sons of Ben. He has also performed the song `I Drink Alone`, which featured on the soundtrack of the movie North Country. In 2006 he also performed the songs `American Pie` and `Good Ole Rebel` for the films Love Comes to the Executioner and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford respectively.
