Early Life
Born Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon to a nurse mother and a physician father, Witherspoon spent her first four years in Germany, due to her father`s transferable job. Once, the whole family shifted to the United States, she went on to attend an all girl`s school. At the small age of seven, she began modeling and also started appearing in advertisements. Personal Life
At the age of 21, in 1997, Witherspoon began a romantic relationship with actor
Ryan Phillippe and the couple got engaged in 1998. The engagement was quickly followed by a wedding in 1999. Their two children- a daughter, Ava Elizabeth Phillippe was born in 1999, and son, Deacon Reese Phillippe was born in 2003. But unfortunately, trouble in their paradise started surfacing and both of them separated in 2007, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason.
After her divorce in 2007, Witherspoon started dating
Jake Gyllenhaal, her Rendition co-star, but the couple parted ways in 2009. In 2011, she tied the knot with Jim Toth, the co-head of motion picture talent at the Creative Artists Agency. They have a son Tennessee James Toth, born in 2012.

In 1996, Reese Witherspoon starred in Matthew Bright`s crime film Freeway, based on Grimm`s fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. For portraying Vanessa Lutz, Witherspoon received rave reviews. In the Following years, she explored a variety of genres in movies like Pleasantville (1998), a fantasy comedy film; Cruel Intentions (1999) a teenage drama film; and American Psycho (2000), a comedy horror film. In Cruel Intentions, Witherspoon starred alongside her former husband Ryan Philippe, who she was married to for nine years.
