Born in Bangalore to Kannadiga parents, Suman Ranganathan is an Indian model and actress who appears in Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, and Hindi movies. She is one of the popular stars in the Kannada film industry and has also won a Filmfare for her performance in the movie Sidlingu, released in the year 2012.
Personal Life
Suman was in a relationship with the actor Rahul Roy, and lived with him as well. The couple also decided to get married but they split. However, even after their break-up, the two remain good friends. The actress was later in a relationship with industrialist Uru Patel but it did not last long and the relationship left sour memories for Suman. So much so, that the actress accused Uru to be a psycho and male chauvinist. Suman later married Gautam, a businessman, on December 28, 2000, however, their marriage didn`t last long.

After she broke-up with Gautam, Suman married the producer Bunty Walia. However, their marriage lasted for just eight months.
Movie Career
Suman worked as a model in Bangalore before she ventured into films. She made her acting debut with the Hindi movie Ankhon Mein Tum Ho (1987). Later, after appearing in a few Kannada movies in 1990 she made her Telugu film debut with the movie 20 va Satabdam. In the same year, she made her Tamil film debut as well, with the movie Pudhu Paatu. A couple of years later, the actress also made her Malayalam film debut with the movie Ellarum Chollanu.

After achieving moderate success in the South Indian film industry, Suman got a chance to enter Bollywood. The actress made her Bollywood debut in the year 1996 with the movie Fareb directed by Vikram Bhatt. The movie was a box office hit. Suman went on to star in Hindi films such as Aa Ab Laut Chalein (1999), Aghaaz (2000), and Mujhe Meri Biwi Se Bachao (2001).

In 2006, Suman starred in the critically acclaimed movie Devaki directed by Bappaditya Bandopadhyay, portraying the character of Devaki. The movie was based on a real-life incident where a tribal woman named Devakibai was sold in an open auction in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The movie also stars Ram Kapoor, Arvin Tucker, and Perizaad Zoarabian and premiered at the Osian Cinefan Asian Film Festival in July 2005. The movie was featured at 11 international film festivals and received critical accolades from around the world. Soon after Devaki released, Suman starred in the Bhojpuri movie, Purab Aur Pashim.

In the subsequent years, Suman focused on Kannada movies and between 2008 to 2013 she appeared in 13 Kannada movies - with Savaari (2009) and Sidlingu (2012) being two of her notable roles. Savaari directed by Jacob Varghese turned out to be one of the most successful Kannada movies of the year, completing a 50-day run at several theaters. Suman was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Filmfare Award nomination for her role. However, it was the 2012 comedy-emotional coming of age movie, Sidlingu, directed by Vijaya Prasad, that earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting actress. In 2016, she starred in the movie Deal Raja, a Kannada comedy film directed by Raj Gopisurya. Her other 2016 release includes the movie Neer Dose directed by Vijay Prasad. Her 2019 release includes Kavaludaari.
