Voted Esquire`s Sexiest Woman Alive in 2015, Emilia Isabelle Euphemia Rose Clarke, better known as Emilia Clarke, is an English television, film, and theater actor who shot to fame for portraying the role of Daenerys Targaryen aka Khaleesi on Game of Thrones, one of HBO`s most successful television series. She was also seen in popular movies such as Terminator Genisys (2015), and Me Before You (2016).
Early LifeClarke was born in London, England, on 23rd of October, 1986 but spent most of her childhood in Berkshire. Her father was a theater sound engineer and her mother was a business woman. She also has a younger brother. Clarke`s fascination for acting developed at an early age due to her father`s involvement in theater. She was just three years old when she started to show interest in acting after seeing the musical Show Boat on which her father was working. Clarke studied at Rye St Anthony School before moving to St Edward`s School, Oxford, where she completed her schooling from. The actor then graduated from the Drama Centre London in 2009.
Personal LifeClarke started dating the Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane in 2012. However, their romance did not last very long and the two soon split the following year after dating only for a few months. Despite their break up, the two continue to remain good friends.
Television CareerClarke was an active part of theater. She began her acting career with stage plays in 2009. In the same year she also starred in an episode of British soap opera Doctors, playing the role of Saskia Mayer. The following year, she also appeared in television movie Triassic Attack, portraying the character of Savannah. In 2010, the British film magazine Screen International foresaw Emilia`s arrival on the international arena and listed her as one of the UK Stars of Tomorrow.
Staying true to the tag bestowed by Screen International, in the same year Clarke portrayed the role of Daenerys Taragrayen in the HBO medieval fantasy series Game of Thrones co-starring Kit Harington and Peter Dinklage. The television series went on to become one of the most successful and most watched series of all-time. Clarke has been a part of the show for all the six seasons of its runtime and is also a part of the cast for the seventh season. For her portrayal of her character, best known as Khaleesi, the actor has received three Emmy Award nominations for the years 2013, 2015, and 2016. While being associated with Game of Thrones, Clarke also played the character of Holly Golightly in a Broadway production of Breakfast at Tiffany from March to April 2013.
Movie CareerAfter a successful stint on television, the already popular actor starred in the 2012 comedy Spike Island alongside Elliott Tittensor and Nico Mirallegro. The following year she appeared in the British black comedy-crime-drama Dom Hemingway opposite Jude Law, which opened to mixed reviews. In 2015, Clarke essayed the role of Sarah Connor in Termintor Genisys opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jai Courtney, and Jason Clarke, which went on to become a commercial success across the globe. The year 2016 saw her portraying the role of Louisa Clark in the movie Me Before You, opposite Sam Claffin. The movie received positive reviews worldwide and was a commercial success. She played a leading role in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), a movie revolving around the iconic character Han Solo. Her 2019 releases include Last Christmas, a holiday-themed romantic comedy in which she stars alongside Henry Golding.
