Born as Rupinder Singh Grewal, Gippy Grewal is an Indian singer, actor, and director. He is popularly known for his Punjabi songs and made his acting debut in 2010 with the movie Mel Karade Rabba. Deemed as the Desi Rockstar in Punjab, Gippy is an immensely talented singer and has also won several awards as an actor.
Early Life
Gippy was born in the Koom Kalan village near Ludhiana, Punjab. He holds a Hotel Management degree but initially worked as a waiter in Delhi.
Personal Life
Gippy is married to Ravneet and the couple has two children Ekomkar Singh Grewal and Gurfateh Singh Grewal.
Music Career
Gippy made a swashbuckling entry in the music world with his debut album Chak Lai, which was a smash hit. He followed this with successful albums such as Nasha, Phulkari, Phulkari 2, Just Hits and Gangster. His single `Phulkari` went on to break several Punjabi music chart records. In 2012, his song `Angreji Beat` was featured in the movie Cocktail, starring Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and Diana Penty. In 2014, Gippy performed at the Sandwell and Birmingham Mela.
Movie Career
The successful singer made his acting debut in a supporting role with the movie Mel Karade Rabba (2010), which went on to become one of the biggest hits of Punjabi cinema at the time of its release. Gippy`s first lead role came with his next movie, Jinhe Mera Dil Luteya (2011). The movie received a positive response at the box office and also had the biggest opening week collection for a Punjabi movie at the time of its release.

In 2012, Gippy appeared in the movie, Mirza - The Untold Story, which received the highest opening at the time of its release. Continuing to deliver successful movies, Gippy`s next movie, Carry On Jatta (2012) was also a major hit. In 2013, Gippy appeared in four movies; all them being blockbusters. His first release of 2013 was Singh is Kaur which also stars Surveen Chawla, Japji Khaira, and Binnu Dhillon. In the movie, Gippy appeared in a turbunated avatar for the first time in his career. He was next seen in Lucky Di Unlucky Story directed by Smeep Kang. The movie that also stars Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi, and Binnu Dhillon, was apparently a copy of the Tamil blockbuster Panchathanthiram starring Kamal Haasan and Simran. His other releases of 2013 include Best of Luck, and Bhaji in Problem.

In 2014, Gippy starred in the movie Jatt James Bond, a dramatic thriller, which marked the Punjabi movie debut of the Bollywood actress, Zarine Khan. He was next seen in the comedy movie Double Di Trouble (2014). He also dubbed for the Punjabi version of the movie A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) starring Bruce Willis, which was the first Hollywood movie to be dubbed in Punjabi.

Before making his Bollywood debut in a lead role, Gippy made a guest appearance in the 2015 movie, Dharam Sankat Mein starring Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, and Naseeruddin Shah. He soon made his Bollywood debut with the romantic-comedy movie, Second Hand Husband, which also marks the debut of Tina Ahuja, the daughter of the popular Bollywood actor, Govinda. The movie, however, failed to impress the audience and received negative response.

Gippy next ventured into direction and made his directorial debut with the Punjabi movie Ardaas, which was a box-office hit. His 2016 release includes Carry on Jatta 2, which also stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Binnu Dhillon, and Rana Ranbir His other releases include Manje Bistre 2, Ardaas Karaan, Daaka and Ik Sandhu Hunda Si.
