About
One of the most bankable names in the Indian entertainment industry, Aditya Chopra, the son of the legendary Yash Chopra is an Indian director, producer, screenwriter, distributor and the creative head of Yash Raj Films. He gave the world Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, which is the longest running movie in the history of Indian cinema. DDLJ defined romance for millions of Indians and made Shah Rukh Khan an overnight heartthrob. Recipient of several National Awards and Filmfare Awards, he has also directed movies like Mohabbatein (2000), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), and Befikre (2016).

As the head of Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra has produced blockbuster and record-breaking movies like Hum Tum (2004), Veer Zaara (2004), Dhoom (2004), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Salaam Namaste (2005), Fanaa (2006), Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), Dum Laga Ke Haisha, and Sultan (2016).

Yash Raj Films (YRF Studio, YRF Entertainment and Y-film), under the leadership of Aditya Chopra has emerged as India`s most successful film, media and entertainment empire.

Early Life
Born to the illustrious filmmaker Yash Chopra, and Pamela, Aditya was since childhood a movie buff who also liked reading books and dancing. He was schooled at Bombay Scottish School and completed his graduation from Hassaram Rijhumal College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, where he was batch-mates and best friends with Karan Johar, Abhishek Kapoor, and Anil Thadani.

Aditya Chopra has a younger brother Uday Chopra, who is also an actor in the Hindi film industry, known for films like Mohabbatein, Neal N Nikki, Dhoom, and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. Through his father, Aditya Chopra is related to Karan Johar, Ravi Chopra, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who are all his first cousins, born to Yash Chopra`s sister Hiroo Johar, and brothers B.R. Chopra, and D.N. Chopra, respectively. The yesteryear`s actress Simi Garewal is his maternal aunt.

Personal Life
Fondly called Adi by all his relatives and fraternity friends, Aditya Chopra, considered as an introvert, has always maintained his distance from the paparazzi. In 2001, he tied the knot with his high school sweetheart Payal Khanna, but the couple got a divorce in 2009 after the rumors of Aditya Chopra`s affair with Rani Mukerji started surfacing. In 2014, he married her in a private ceremony in Italy. Their first child Adira Chopra was born in December 2015.

Movie Career
As a Director
After assisting his father Yash Chopra on the Sridevi starrer Lamhe(1991) and Chandni (1989), and Darr (1993), Aditya Chopra made his directorial debut with the mega-blockbuster cult film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The film went on to bag the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

His second directorial venture was the super-hit romantic drama film Mohabbatein.

After a sabbatical of eight years from direction, Aditya Chopra returned to the silver screen with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. In spite of receiving mixed reviews from the critics, the movie was a runaway hit, whose music became the first Bollywood album to reach the top ten sales for the iTunes Store. In 2016, again after a break of eight years, Aditya Chopra directed the romantic comedy film Befikre.

As a Writer
The filmmaker wrote his first script for Yash Chopra`s Parampara which failed miserably at the box office. He further wrote the screenplay and co-wrote the dialogues of his film DDLJ. He has been credited as a writer for many successful films like Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997), Mohabbatein (2000), Veer Zaara (2004), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012). He has also written screenplays and scripts for `new-age` movies like Salaam Namaste, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Band Baaja Baraat, Ladies VS Ricky Bahl, and Befikre. The super hit Dhoom trilogy is also penned down by this multi-talented filmmaker.

As a Producer
In 1997, Aditya Chopra under his father`s banner, Yash Raj Films produced Dil Toh Pagal Hai. After the blockbuster success of the romantic drama film directed by Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra produced Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, and Mujhse Dosti Karoge, both of the films starred his brother Uday Chopra but failed at the box office. In the year 2004, Aditya Chopra produced three films: Hum Tum, Veer Zaara, and Dhoom. All of them were smashing hits at the box office and received huge commercial and critical success.

In 2007, the film mogul produced the National Award-winning film Chak De! India, establishing YRF as a production house catering to all kind of cinema. In between 2007 and 2010, YRF suffered some major losses and released commercial flops one after the other. Movies like Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007), Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007), Tashan (2008), Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (2008), Roadside Romeo (2008), and Pyaar Impossible (2010), all these movies failed to leave any impact amongst the audience. After the release of the crime comedy film Badmaash Company, the filmmaker took over as the Vice-President of Yash Raj Films and produced films like Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies VS Ricky Bahl, Ishaqzaade, and Shuddh Desi Romance.

In 2012 and 2013, Yash Raj Films produced record-breaking commercial films like Ek Tha Tiger, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Dhoom 3. In 2012, after the demise of Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra was made the Chairman of YRF. Subsequently, he produced Gunday, Bewakoofiyaan, Mardaani, Dawaat-e-Ishq and Kill Dill. 2015 saw YRF foray into non-commercial and offbeat cinema, with films like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, and Titli. Replicating the success of Ek Tha Tiger, he made the action-drama film Sultan, with Salman Khan in 2016. His other releases include Shamshera, Pathaan, The Great Indian Family, Tiger 3 and War 2.
