Madonna Sebastian is a popular actress and singer who mainly appears in the Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films. The actress had a great start to her career on the silver screen in her debut movie Premam, as she was nominated for the Best Female Debutante at the SIIMA Award. Apart from acting and singing in Films and TV shows, the actress has also worked as a TV presenter; she hosted a music reality TV show that was broadcast on Surya TV.
Madonna Sebastian was born in a typical Christian family in Kolencherry, Kerala to Baby Devassy and Shyla Baby. The actress attended Indian School Salalah, Oman and later completed her higher studies from St. Peter`s Senior Secondary School in Kadayiruppu. After completing her school, she pursued her graduation in Bachelor of Commerce from Christ University, Bangalore. Right from her childhood, Madonna was very much interested in extracurricular activities and she started training in Carnatic as well as western from a very early age. The actress got her first break in acting when she was still in school; she appeared in the TV show Music Mojo after completing her 10th grade;. The show was her claim to fame. She has a younger sister named Michelle Sebastian.
Madonna Sebastian rose to fame with her participation in the Malayalam musical program, Music Mojo, which was well received by the audience. After seeing her brilliant work in Music Mojo, acclaimed director Alphonse Puthrencalled her for an audition for his next project Premam. She attended the audition and although the director wanted to cast her in a different role, she felt that she connected better with another character and eventually bagged the role she wanted. The film co-starring Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi, Anupama Parameswaran and Alphonse Puthren was noted for featuring 17 debutant actors. Upon release, the film received wide critical acclaim, especially for its direction, cinematography, and songs. It also became the first Malayalam film to run for more than 200 days in Tamil Nadu and won several accolades including Best Popular Movie at the Asiavision Movie Awards and the Best Film (South) Award at the IBNLive Movie Awards in 2016.
Following the success of her debut movie, Madonna made her debut in the Tamil film industry with Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. The film which was the official remake of the Korean film My Dear Desperado received mostly positive reviews and grossed more than seven crore INR in the opening weekend itself. The actress next starred in the Malayalam comedy film King Liar,directed by Lal. The film also featuring Dileep, Joy Matthew, Lal, Siddique and Natasha Suri in pivotal roles emerged to be a commercial hit grossing more than 5 crore INR within the first four days at the Kerala box office. Her other release in 2016 includes Premam, a coming-of-age musical-romantic comedy Telugu film directed by Chandoo Mondeti, while her 2017 release includes Power Pandi, directed by Dhanush. In 2018, Madonna played a cameo in Vijay Sethupathi starrer, Junga. Her 2019 releases include Virus and Brother`s Day.
