When Ed sits the distraught family down for an Elvis sing-a-long to calm everyones nerves, you half expect Wan to cut it short with a gotcha jump-scare because typically, thats what these films do. Nothing in The Conjuring 2 can match the terrific hide-and-clap sequence from the earlier film lets face it, that was always going to be hard to top but thats not to say this sequel doesnt pack its share of solid scares. With 2013s The Conjuring, director James Wan, creator of both the Saw and Insidious franchises, managed to pump fresh blood into a genre as creaky as the haunted house thriller.
