Arvind Swamy, a South Indian superstar is an actor, model, TV presenter and entrepreneur who is best known for his work in Tamil cinema. He rose to fame when the acclaimed director, Mani Ratnam introduced him in the 1991 film Thalapathi starring superstar Rajinikanth. Arvind later went on to work Mani Ratnam in the critically acclaimed films like Roja (1992), Bombay (1995), and Alaipayuthey (2000).

Early Life
Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Arvind Swamy was raised by his foster parents, V.D Swamy, an Industrialist and Vastanha Swamy, a Bharatnatyam dancer. Arvind went to Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School where he finished schooling in 1987. He completed his graduation with a Commerce degree from Loyola College, Chennai and later went to the United States of America to pursue master`s degree in International Business from Wake Forest University, North Carolina.

Personal Life
Arvind Swamy married Gayathri Ramamurthy in 1994 and together the couple has two children; a daughter named Adhira Swamy who was born in 1996 and a son named Rudra Swamy who was born in 2000. After living together for nine years, the couple parted ways and they lived separately for seven years until their divorce was finalized in 2010. The actor later married Aparna Mukerjee, a lawyer in 2012 and the two live together with Arvind`s children.

Movie Career
Arvind Swamy had a dream start to his career; he collaborated with the stalwart director, Mani Ratnam and appeared in a supporting role alongside superstars Rajinikanth and Mammootty in the 1991 crime-drama, Thalapathi. It was a massive critical and commercial hit. The following year, Arvind made his debut as the lead in the Mani Ratnam directed National Award winning romantic thriller film, Roja. After two back-to-back hits, Arvind Swamy made his debut in a Malayalam film, Daddy co-starring Gautami Tadimalla and Suresh Gopi.

The actor got his next major hit in 1995 as he once again collaborated with Mani Ratnam for Bombay, which was based on the true events that occurred between December 1992 to January 1993 post the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. The film, co-starring Manisha Koirala was the second of Mani Ratnam`s trilogy of films, which was set in the backdrop of the Indian politics. The same year, Arvind made his debut in the Telugu film industry with C. Umamaheshwara Rao directed thriller film, Mounam. Co-starring Nagma, Charu Haasan and Raghuvaran

After establishing himself as one of the most successful actors in the Tamil film industry, Arvind Swamy made his comeback to Malayalam cinema in 1996 with the Devaraagam co-starring Sridevi, Nedumudi Venu and Kozhikode Narayanan and Zeenath. The following year, Arvind had two releases, viz. Pudhayal and Minsara Kanavu. Whilst the former did not fare well at the box office, the latter, a Rajiv Menon directed musical romantic film was a huge hit. It won four National Film Award, three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and Filmfare Award South. The film was later remade in Hindi as Sapnay with Prabhudeva replacing Arvind Swamy in the lead role.

In 1998, the actor added another feather in his already celebrated and illustrious career cap as he made his debut in Hindi cinema with Priyadarshan directed Saat Rang Ke Sapne. In his only release of the year in 1999, the actor shared the screen space with Isha Koppikar, Prakash Raj, and Raghuvaran in En Swasa Kaatre directed by K.S. Ravi. The film got mostly negative reviews and garnered poor collections at the box office. The following year, he made a guest appearance in the critically acclaimed, Alaipayuthey starring R. Madhavan and Shalini. The family premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2001 and following its huge success it was remade in Hindi as Saathiya with Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles.

Post-2006, the actor took a sabbatical from acting and he did other works from starting his own software engineering business to construction business before eventually making a comeback to the film industry with Kadal in 2013. Upon its theatrical release in February 2013, the film got mostly mixed reviews from the critics.

In is solitary release of 2015, the actor starred alongside Jayam Ravi and Nayantara in the acting thriller, Thani Oruvan directed by Mohan Raja. The film got wide critical acclaim and Arvind for his brilliant performance won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor - Tamil. His first release of the year of 2016 was Dear Dad, a bittersweet coming of age story of unexpected confessions, accidental meetings, and a drunken escapade. He has also acted in films like Dhurva (2016) and Bogan (2017). His 2018 projects include Tamil films Bhaskar Oru Rascal and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.
