Indraneil Sengupta is an Indian model-turned-actor who appears on Hindi and Bengali movies. He has also featured on several Hindi TV shows. The finalist of Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1999, made his Bollywood debut in 2004 with the movie
Shukriya: Till Death Do Us Apart. He has since then appeared in several Hindi and Bengali movies such as
1920 (2008),
Autograph (2010)
Arekti Premer Golpo (2011),
Kahaani (2012),
Satyagraha (2013),and
Obhishopto Nighty (2014). In 2014, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the movie
Mishawr Rawhoshyo (2013). In 2017, he was seen in the movies
M.A. Pass directed by
Jr. Suresh Kumar, and the travel drama film
Sargoshiyan directed and produced by
Imran Khan.
Personal Life Indraneil is married to his television co-star
Barkha Bisht - the duo appeared together on the TV shows Pyar k do naam_Ek Radha Ek Shyaam and Doli Saja Ke. The couple got married on the 1st of March, 2008, and their daughter Meera was born in October 2011.
TV Career After being the runner up at the Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1999, where he came second to
John Abraham, Indraneil took up modeling and worked with Rohit Bal, a fashion designer, and choreographers
Achala Sachdev and
Marc Robinson. He then appeared in TV commercials and music videos for artists such as
Falguni Pathak (music video - Pal pal teri yaad sataye),
Jagjit Singh, Yesudas, and
Asha Bhosle (music video - Koi diya jale kahi (remix)).
In 2005, Indraneil was cast in the lead role as Shyaam in the popular TV show Pyar Ke Do Naam: Ek Radha Ek Shyaam. The following year he appeared on the TV show Banoo Main Teri Dulhann which aired on Zee TV. A couple of years later, in 2008, he worked was paired with Barkha Bisht for the second time, in the TV show Babul Ki Bitiya Chali Doli Saja Ke Rakhna. The TV show that premiered on 27th May 2007, ran for almost two-and-a-half years and ended on 13th November 2009. In the next few years the actor was seen on TV shows such as Maayka (2008), Tumhari Paakhi (2014), Maharakshak: Devi (2015), Jamai Raja (2016), and Ghulaam (2017).
Movie Career Indraneil made his Bollywood debut in 2004 with the movie
Shukriya: Till Death Do Us Apart essaying the character of Yash. The movie directed by Anupam Sinha also starred
Aftab Shivdasani,
Shriya Saran, and
Anupam Kher. He was later seen in the movies -
Mumbai Salsa (2007) and
1920 (2008). In the next few years, Indraneil would foray into Bengali cinema and go on to act in 10 Bengali films before making a comeback in Bollywood in 2012.
In 2009, he appeared in his debut Bengali film.
Angshumaner Chhobi directed by
Atanu Ghosh. The movie premiered at the 40th International Film Festival of Goa and went on to win several national and international accolades including the Aravindan Puraskaram for Best Debut in 2009. In the following year he appeared in another critically acclaimed movie -

Autograph. The actor essayed the character of Shuvobrata Mitra, a young aspiring director, in the movie which also stars
Prosenjit Chatterjee and
Nandana Sen.
Indraneil continued to act in arthouse movies: his next movie being
Arekti Premer Golpo, a Bengali drama movie, directed by
Kaushik Ganguly, that centers on homosexuality. The movie premiered at the 60th Berlin Film Festival in 2010 and won the I-View 2010 Engendered Award for Outstanding Cinema. In 2012, he was seen in only his fourth Hindi movie
Kahaani - directed by
Sujoy Ghosh. In the same year, he starred in a Bangladeshi movie
Chorabali directed by Redoan Rony. The movie went on to win five awards at the 37th Bangladesh National Film Awards. In 2013, he essayed the role of Hani Al Qadi in
Srijit Mukherji`s
Mishawr Rawhoshyo. The adventure thriller that also starred
Prosenjit Chatterjee,
Swastika Mukherjee and
Aryann Bhowmik in prominent roles went on to become one of the most successful Bengali movies of 2013. The movie has since then gained a cult following. In the same year, he appeared in a cameo in
Prakash Jha`s
Satyagraha.
In 2014, Indraneil starred in a cameo role in an Assamese movie titled
Jilmil Jonak. He next went on to star in the Hindi movie
Samrat & Co. directed by
Kaushik Ghatak. In subsequent years, he appeared in the movies
Gogoler Kirti (2014),
Shajarur Kanta (2015),
Calendar Girls (2015), and
Kirti O Kalo Bhromor (2016). In 2016, he also made his debut in the Marathi film industry with the movie
& Jara Hatke directed by
Prakash Kunte. His 2017 release includes the movie
M.A. Pass directed by
Jr. Suresh Kumar, and the travel drama film
