Sujoy Ghosh is an Indian director, screenwriter, actor, and producer best known for his movie Kahaani (2012) starring Vidya Balan. Sujoy, who made his directorial debut in 2003 with the movie Jhankar Beats, has also produced movies such as Aladin (2009) and Te3n (2016). In 2016, he released the short film Ahalya, starring Radhika Apte, which received rave reviews from the audience.

Early Life
Sujoy was born in Kolkata and completed his schooling from the St. James` School. For the first 13 years of his life, he lived in Bhowanipore and then moved to London. He later was enrolled at the Queen Elizabeth`s College, where he completed his A Levels and further completed his Engineering and MBA from the Manchester University. After completing his post-graduation, Sujoy worked with Reuters as the South Asia Head of the Media Division before quitting in 1999.

Personal Life
Sujoy is married to Vaishali, a psychologist, and the couple has two children - Agni, a rugby player, and Diya, a biology student.

Movie Career
As a Director
In 2003, Sujoy directed his maiden film, Jhankar Beats - a tribute to the legendary Indian music composer R. D. Burman. The film that stars Sanjay Suri, Juhi Chawla, Rahul Bose, Rinke Khanna, Shayan Munshi and Riya Sen received moderate success at the box office. His next two films Home Delivery (2005) and Aladin (2009) bombed at the box office.

In 2012, Sujoy directed the movie Kahaani, a mystery thriller starring Vidya Balan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Parambrata Chatterjee, Indraneil Sengupta, and Saswata Chatterjee. The movie went on to receive commercial and critical acclaim, winning three National Awards including Best Screenplay (Original) Award - screenplay written by Sujoy Ghosh. The Telegraph called the film to be, "a mind-juggling medley of manipulation masquerading as a `mother of a story", while Russel Edward of the Variety praised the cast, direction, and cinematography stating: despite occasional glitches, the "adroit thriller ... maintains momentum and credibility".

Following Kahaani`s success, the director focused on acting and producing and in 2015 directed and wrote the short film Ahalya starring Radhika Apte, Soumitra Chatterjee, and Tata Roy. The film that is based on the mythical story of the character Ahalya from Ramayana received unanimous praise upon is online release. His 2016 release includes the movie Kahaani 2, a sequel to the 2012 movie Kahaani. His 2019 release includes Badla.

As a Writer
Sujoy has written most of the movies that he has directed and in 2014 he wrote the movie Bang Bang directed by Siddharth Anand.

As a Producer
In 2009, Sujoy produced the movie Aladin, which he had also directed. He next produced two of the movies he directed, Kahaani and Ahalya. His 2016 releases as a producer include Te3n and Kahaani 2.

As an Actor
In 2012, Sujoy made a cameo in the Bengali movie Nobel Chor. In was in 2012 that he appeared in his first lead role in the movie Satyanweshi directed by Rituparno Ghosh. Sujoy essayed the popular character of detective Byomkesh Bakshi.
