A popular personality in the Malayalam film industry, Vineeth Sreenivasan is a multitalented artist. Vineeth who started his career as a playback singer has also worked as a lyricist, actor, director, producer and scriptwriter. Vineeth made his debut as a singer in the film industry with Kilichundan Mampazham in 2003 before eventually establishing himself as an accomplished singer. He even did his own musical albums like Malayalee (2007), Cofee @ MG Road (2008), Ekanaay (2009) and Anbe (2013). The talented star, after making a name for himself as a singer, he moved to acting and made his debut with Cycle in 2008. Two years later, he ventured into direction and his maiden directorial venture was Malarvadi Arts Club. In 2016, he also produced a film titled Aanandam, under his own production company named Habit of Life.
Born on October 10, 1985, to veteran actor and scriptwriter, Sreenivasan and his wife Vimala, Vineeth is the elder brother of Malayalam film actor Dhyan Sreenivasan. Vineeth competed his education from Rani Jai H S S, Nirmalagiri and pursued a degree in mechanical engineering from KCG College of Technology in Chennai.
Vineeth started dating Divya Narayanan, his junior at KCG College of Technology in 2004. After a courtship of eight years, the couple got married in October 2012.
As a playback singer
Vineeth started his film career as a playback singer in Malayalam cinema and made his debut with Kilichundan Mampazham in 2002. Whilst, he did not get any recognition with his debut song, he got several opportunities and in 2005 he collaborated with stalwart singer K S Chitra for the 2005 film, Naran and later in the same year, he did a solo song for Chanthupottu, which was directed by Lal Jose. Vineeth had a very busy and successful year in 2006 and 2007 as he sung in more than 15 films. In 2008, the actor won the AMMA Best Male Singer for the song Jillu Jillu from Mayabazar. A few of other popular films that he has sung in includes Surumaklezhuthiya (2014), You Too Brutus (2015), Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2016).
As an actor
After having established himself as an accomplished singer, Vineeth showcased his acting skill as he made his debut with Cycle directed by Johny Antony. The film co-starring Vinu Mohan, Bhama, and Jagathy Sreekumar was a box office hit and Vineeth for his role as Roy, an accountant working in a private company won the Best Male New Face of the Year Award. His next major release was the 2011 thriller film, Traffic directed by Rajesh Pillai. The film featuring an ensemble cast including Remya Nambeesan, Asif Ali, Kunchako Boban and Anoop Menon and Rahman received wide positive reception and is regarded as one of the defining movies of the Malayalam New Wave. Owing to its commercial and critical success, the film was later remade in Tamil as Chennaiyil Oru Naal and in Kannada as Crazy Star. After his success with Traffic, the actor, later in the same year shared the screen space with Fahadh Faasil, Roma Asrani and Niveda in Chaapa Kurish, which marked the directorial debut of Sameer Thahir. The movie, which was based on the 2009 South Korean movie, Handphone, following its success was later remade in Tamil as Pulivaal with Prasanna and Vimal in the lead roles.
Over the next couple of years, the actor had five releases. Viz. Om Shanti Oshana (2014), Ormayundo Ee Mukhan (2014), Oru Second Class Yathra (2015), Kunjiramayanam (2015) and Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015) most of which performed decently at the box office. His 2017 releases include Aby, a Malayalam-language film directed by Srikant Murali. His 2019 release includes Manoharam.
As a director
Already a successful singer and actor, Vineeth Sreenivasan donned the director`s hat and achieved immediate success as he won the Asiavision Award for Best Debutant Director for his directorial debut venture Malarvadi Arts Club in 2008. The film, which also marked Vineeth`s debut as a film writer received wide positive critical review and was declared a super hit at the box office. Following the huge success of his debut directorial film, he next directed Thattathin Marayathu, which won a SIIMA Awards nomination for Best Director. His other directorial ventures include Thira (2013), and Jacob Swargarajyam (2016).
As a Producer
Vineeth Sreenivasan made his production debut with Aanandam, a romantic comedy film, which released in October 2016. His 2019 releases include Panthu and Kuttimama.
Apart from singing in the films, Vineeth Sreenivasan has also released his own individual albums as part of a band named Malayalee along with Jakes Bejoy, Shaan Rahman, and Arjun Sasi. Some of his popular Albums include Malayalee (2007), Palavattam (2008), La Cochin (2009), Parayathe (2012) and Anbe (2013). His 2019 release includes Love, Action, Drama.
