SYNOPSIS

If ever a film had me mentally tiptoeing over a booby-trapped carpet of eggshells while silently gibbering with anxiety, its this brutal sci-fi suspense thriller, written by horror specialists Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and directed by John Krasinski, who developed the screenplay with them and stars alongside Emily Blunt. Its set in a postapocalyptic wasteland. Spend enough time inside the Quietest Room in the World and, if firsthand accounts are to be believed, you will slowly begin to lose your mind. Within the first few minutes, you will learn that even the slightest movement of your body a twitch of the shoulder, a gulp, a shrug makes sounds. As genres go, horror is particularly challenging to crack. Its easy to resort to cheap scares to get audiences jumping out of their seats. On the other hand, it takes an evolved set of storytelling skills to make them genuinely uncomfortable and fearful for the events unfolding onscreen. A Quiet Place, directed by John Krasinski, is almost like a master class in the art of pacing a horror thriller. It is consistently eerie, ominous and offers a series of very tense situations that are anchored by characters we are deeply invested in.
