About
Originally a competitive diver, Jason Statham is an English actor best known for his roles in action movies. The actor often plays the role of an antihero and performs all of his stunts himself.

Early Life
Jason Statham was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, England on 26 July, 1967, although some sources say he`s born in 1972. His father Barry Statham was a street seller and singer, and his mother Eileen was a dancer. The Englishman soon moved to Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and began learning martial arts and football. During his schooling, he also practiced diving and became a part of his country`s national diving squad. In 1990, Statham represented England at the Commonwealth Games in three different diving categories. Two years later, he was ranked number 12 in the world as a platform diver. Statham was soon noticed by a sports promotion agency who signed him on as a model for French Connection. During this time, he appeared in numerous music videos whilst simultaneously selling fake perfumes and jewelry in the street`s black market in order to make ends meet.

Personal Life
Jason Statham dated English model and TV presenter Kelly Brooks from 1997 to 2004. In 2010, he began seeing English model-turned-actor Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The two got engaged in January 2016.

Movie Career
During his modeling days with French Connection, Jason Statham met British film director Guy Ritchie who felt that Statham would be perfect to play the role of a street-smart con artist in the crime comedy thriller Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998). The movie was a great success both critically and commercially and the director roped Statham in for the film Snatch (2000), which also starred Brad Pitt. The film was by and large well-received and Hollywood began taking notice of the actor.

After appearing in the sci-fi films Ghost of Mars (2001) and The One (2001), Jason Statham was cast in the lead role in the action film The Transporter (2002), which was reasonably well-received. The actor then played a supporting role in The Italian Job (2003) and the role of the antagonist in Cellular (2004). Post that, Statham starred in Transporter 2 (2005), which earned over USD 80 million at the box office and was widely considered to be a better film than its prequel. The actor then played the lead role in the dark action comedy Crank (2006) and its sequel Crank: High Voltage (2009), before starring in Transporter 3 (2008). All of these films established Jason Statham as one of Hollywood`s top action stars.

Over the next few years, he played prominent roles in The Expendables film franchise, which also featured an array of iconic action stars like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, and Harrison Ford. In 2013, he joined the Fast & Furious franchise, making a cameo at the end of Fast & Furious 6. He played the role of the lead antagonist in Furious 7 (2015), battling against the antagonists played by Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and the late Paul Walker. In an unexpected twist, Jason Statham appeared in a refreshingly different role; that of a clumsy, delusional, overconfident agent in the Melissa McCarthy-starrer Spy (2015). The actor was even nominated for a Best Actor in a Comedy role at the Critics Choice Awards. The year 2016, saw Jason Statham return to his conventional anti-hero role, with the action thriller Mechanic: Resurrection, a sequel to The Mechanic (2011). His 2019 release includes Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw.

  • Personal Quotes (19)

  • "You ain't ever gonna get an Academy Award for doing Crank and you certainly won't for doing all the other movies I've done."
  • "The people who inspired me growing up, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, that's the real deal. You see them, the camera's way back, there aren't a lot of cuts; you feel like you're really in there. Today, there's so much technology and green-screen and CGI, you can turn your grandma into an action star."
  • "Growing up where I did, you met a lot of colorful characters whose business was on the other side of the law, or more likely you didn't know what they were up to, and you never would. So playing those kinds of characters now, I can draw on that. The rest of it, you can practice or learn from books. But mostly, I draw from my experiences. That's all I have, you know."
  • "Looking good and feeling good go hand in hand. If you have a healthy lifestyle, your diet and nutrition are set, and you're working out, you're going to feel good."
  • "I love getting dressed up in a suit because I don't do it all the time."
  • "Your body is like a piece of dynamite. You can tap it with a pencil all day, but you'll never make it explode. You hit it once with a hammer: Bang! Get serious. Do 40 hard minutes, not an hour and half of nonsense. It's so much more rewarding."
  • "The most frustrating thing about injuries is that they take so bloody long to heal."
  • "Bruce Lee was just so lightning-fast. People try to emulate him in whatever way they can, but to try and do what he was doing... you're just inspired by it; you're not trying to say, 'Look, I can do that.' No one can do what he did."
  • "There's a voice in all of us, and you can only get expressive through words. There's a limit to what you can do without speaking."
  • "A franchise is dictated on the success of doing one film right, so if you can get it done correctly, you've got a chance of something else, but sometimes it just doesn't work that way. Ideally, it's insurance for the future; if you can do something, if you can find a character that people really do like, then you're very lucky."
  • "You got to be careful mentioning people as great as Clint Eastwood. You can't put me in the same sentence as that man."
  • "Every single day has a different combination of exercises. It always changes, and that's what keeps things interesting."
  • "I love people who have a good sense of humor, tell a good story, tell a good joke."
  • "Me in a cape? I don't fancy that. Tight tights? Nah! I don't think that's right for me. I just respond more to true stories; that's my flavour."
  • "I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and they'll put her on a green screen, and they'll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action. Anybody can do it. They're relying on stunt doubles and green screen and $200 million budgets - it's all CGI created. To me, it's not authentic."
  • "If someone's got a fear of heights, they'd probably say, well, hanging off a helicopter at 3,000 feet above downtown L.A. would be the scariest. For me, that's a day's work, something I was very happy to do."
  • "A lot of actors are frustrated because they want to do things that are different and test themselves. Character actors are always looking for something the opposite of what they did."
  • "I remember the first time I saw Robert De Niro at a party. I didn't want to run over and shake his hand. I wanted to admire him from a distance. Later, I ended up making a movie with him, and that was fantastic."
  • "With 'The Expendables,' you have such a brilliant mess of the greatest action stars of all time, so you're in for the ride with those people."
