Sreenath Bhasi is an Indian model, film actor, and playback singer, who started out as a radio jockey in Red FM 93.5, and then eventually went on to star in several Malayalam films. The actor, who was also a VJ, is most remembered for his notable performances in movies like
22 Female Kottayam (2012), Ustad Hotel (2012),
Honey Bee (2013), and
Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2016).
Early life
Sreenath was born in Kochi in 1988 and stays in Vypin. He pursued his education at the MG University. He was part of the alternative metal band Crimson Wood when in college. He works as a vocalist for an experimental band from Kerala. He is also a vocalist in his brother`s band Two Decades and After.
Personal life
The actor married his longtime girlfriend Reethu Zachariah on 9th December 2016, at Bolgatty Palace, Ernakulam.
Movie career
Sreenath kickstarted his movie career in 2011 with the Malayalam romantic drama
Pranayam, under the direction of
Blessy. The story follows the love story of three characters, Mathews played by
Mohanlal, Grace by
Jaya Prada and Achutha Menon portrayed by
Anupam Kher. Sreenath played a supporting role in the film, which received positive reviews and was a commercial success. He then continued with smaller roles in the
Rima Kallingal-
Fahadh Faasil starrer
22 Female Kottayam (2012), followed by
Shyamaprasad`s Arike featuring
Dileep, Samvrutha Sunil and
Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. Sreenath was next seen as a band member in the 2012
Dulquer Salmaan-
Nithya Menen box office hit Ustad Hotel, and later featured in a minor role in director
Lal Jose`s Ayalum Njanum Thammil. After a string of supporting roles, Sreenath was cast in a lead role in the romantic comedy
Da Thadiya in the same year, opposite
Sekhar Menon and
Ann Augustine.
In 2013, he featured as one of the leads in the comedy thriller film
Honey Bee, directed by
Jean Paul Lal. Sreenath played a friend to lovers Sebastian (
Asif Ali) and Angel (Bhavana), who run away, but later struggle for survival. He followed this up with an appearance in the road movie
North 24 Kaatham, starring as the lead
Fahadh Faasil`s brother. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam, and the critics praised the movie for its fresh concept.
Sreenath`s first venture in 2014 was a supporting role in the political satire Masala Republic starring
Indrajith and
Aparna Nair. He was later cast in a lead role of a bachelor in the comedy movie
Beware of Dogs. In the following year, he had three movie appearances -
KL 10 Patthu,
Rasputin and
Rani Padmini.
KL 10 Patthu, in which Sreenath played a supporting role, is about two lovers who elope and how their friends and families try to track their whereabouts.
Rasputin was a romantic comedy starring
Vinay Forrt as the main character, with Sreenath in a pivotal role, whereas he only had a supporting role in
Aashiq Abu`s Rani Padmini.
In 2016, the actor played the son of a successful businessman portrayed by
Renji Panicker, in the box office hit
Jacobinte Swargarajyam. In the movie, he also shared screen space with popular actors like
Nivin Pauly,
Lakshmy Ramakrishnan and
Sai Kumar. In another film
Anuraga Karikkin Vellam in the same year, Sreenath played the friend of a police officer`s son. This movie too was a success at the box office and received positive critical acclaim for being a good family entertainer.
Sreenath`s 2017 release includes the comedy thriller film
Honey Bee 2: Celebrations, under the direction of
Jean Paul Lal. It features him as part of an ensemble cast including
Asif Ali, Bhavana,
Baburaj, and
Balu Varghese, whereas
Lal,
Sreenivasan, and Lena play supporting roles. As of 2018, he is associated with the film
Iblis and Kumbalangi Nights. His 2019 release includes Virus.
As a playback singer
Sreenath has recorded the songs Vattakkulam from the movie
Idukki Gold, and Thaanaro from
North 24 Kaatham, both in 2013. His other releases include Anjaam Pathiraa (2020),
Trance (2020),
Kappela (2020) and
The Priest (2021).
